We are seeking a highly motivated qualified Historical Specialist with expertise in WisDOT Section 106 documentation.

Description
  • Responsibilities to include reviewing historic preservation work completed by staff including the work done for the Identification, Evaluation and Consultation steps of the Section 106 Review Process.
  • Mentoring staff in the implementation and documentation of the Section 106 Review Process.
  • Coordinating with the client, other agencies, and design team members to ensure compliance with WisDOT cultural resource guidelines.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with team members, clients and other agencies.
  • Handling multiple deadlines and producing high-quality work under tight schedules.
  • Assisting with business development of additional history related deliverables.
Qualifications

  • Minimum of a graduate degree in history or closely related field or a bachelor's degree in history or closely related field plus one of the following:
    1. At least two years of full-time experience in research, writing, teaching, interpretation or other demonstrable professional activity with an academic institution, historical organization or agency, museum or other professional institution; or
    2. Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of history (including the preparation of Determinations of Eligibility for and/or Nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Minimum of 10+ years related experience.
  • Experience with WisDOT Section 106 historical documentation ranging from letter reports to MOA's.
  • Familiarity with WisDOT and local agency procedures for related historical work.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to provide own transport to project sites as necessary.
