This urban reconstruction project contained multiple stages to construct a concrete pavement section at one of the busiest interchanges in the State. Two lanes of traffic in each direction were maintained at all times except for nighttime lane and ramp closures.
Substantial fills and pre-cast panel retaining walls were constructed to achieve the elevated profile of the new mainline. The raised roadway ties into the State’s largest straddle bent structures that span a new roundabout. A multi-use tunnel and approaching cast in place retaining walls were dug on the east end of the project to provide a non-conflicting access route for pedestrians.
With this project being Phase 2 of a multi-year plan, coordination with previous and upcoming projects required long hours and intelligent foresight.
